There are several John Mitchinson's registered around that time
I would imagine he was born before the parents married (if they did) and was rgistered in mums maiden name - but later added Dad's name - or stepfather maybe.
I'll look fora Mitchinson/Henderson marriage

Already did Lizdb, there's one about 1840, a bit early edit that's a John Mitchinson & John Henderson on same page, so not even that one is ok!
Emma, the Henderson tailors in 1891 were both single.
I found a John Henderson, a tailor, born Whittingham Northumberland, in Coxlodge Northumberland with a son John 20 in 1901 census, John senior's wife Ellen Parker Henderson nee Davies from Nottingham
Trouble is, without knowing a birthplace, or knowing how long his father had been deceased, he could be anywhere. I would wait for the 1911 census for a birthplace and then try again, hopefully it won't be too long before Durham and Northumberland & N. Yorkshire are available

Emma,
From a different direction.....
FreeBMD lists seven birth registrations within Gateshead Reg District ( which covered Heworth area) of Henderson children born to a mother with nee name Birbeck in period 1911-1925.
As you probably already know those children's names were...
Florence A, James, Dorrien M, Alex & May (twins ? ) Hazel and John.
But maybe eliminating the names you know to be associated with the Birbeck line, might leave you with first names used by the Henderson family, hopefully leading to the "right" lot on a previous census ?

Hi Emma,
I have just started researching my family (only yesterday). It turns out that John Mitchinson Henderson is my great grandfather. His son James (aka Jimmy) was my grandfather.
The youngest son, my great uncle, is still alive so I am hoping to visit him soon to get as much information about the family as possible.
I would be really grateful if you could let me know what you have found out about the Hendersons prior to Mitchinson. I hadn't yet found his dads name so that was a big help. Of course if I can help you in any way I would be happy to do so.

Thanks to both Emma and Andrea for your help. Obviously I am very new to this so not completely sure of the protocols for what can be posted.
