« on: Friday 23 January 09 22:12 UTC (UK) »

Hi all
Having huge probs tracing my family roots.

I have an Eliza Baron (b 1853 Leeds father William) married to my ggreat granddad [John?] William Whittaker no date? All I know is that Whittaker was a dyer by trade.

i have tried to do a search on Eliza Baron with free BMD etc and even bought marr cert but the father comes up as Barren!!!!?

On different census's I'm coming up with Baron/Barren/Barron

Its all very confusing for me
can anyone help me please?

Realistically we need to see your evidence to assess it.
What census households and certificate details are you trying to work with?
ALL details of each please..

To be perfectly honest .. and not that it's any help in the slightest .. a lot of mine had names that sounded very similar, but the spelling was atrocious .. !

Rarely were the names spelt the same way on concurrent returns ..  Undecided

I have Bar(r)ons in the Huddersfield area and they are often recorded in the PRs as Barrand! Might be worth a look?  Undecided

Hi failsafe

I also have lots of Barrons, Barrans etc from Leeds in my tree as my grandmother was a Mary Lily Barron. Mine originated in Ireland coming to Leeds in the 1840's and living in South Leeds area and Isle of Cinder. The spelling is different in each record.
Have you checked births in Holbeck and Hunslet? Do you have her in a Census Record?
