John Henry Shore
« on: Friday 23 January 09 23:22 UTC (UK) »

John Henry Shore (has been known as John Henry Shore-Marston) married a lady called Rose (surname not known). I cant find any details of their marriage, but I think they may have been married whilst he was serving in the RAF,as he was a regular for many years and may even have been abroad at the time. He was born in 1896 in Devon.

Can you look for the birth of any known kids to get a maiden name for Rose?

Overseas/army marriages will be on a different index to the GRO ones as on freebmd.

Hi Amber,
I am tracing my family tree (marston),my grandmother was Florence Shore she married John Marston in 1900,he died in the army in Gibraltar at the age of 32.
She brought  up 3 sons and a daughter in Exmouth,Devon. One son was my father John Marston and another was John Henry Shore-Marston, he married Rose May in 1919 they had 2 sons Richard who was in the Army in Malta inWW2 and walter Roy who was a Sergeant flight engineer in the RAF-VR(he was shot down over Germany in Nov 1943. He was buried in Dumbach war cemetry,Germany.
It would be nice if you asked your family if they had any photos or records that i could copy.are you in the Devon area or Coventry area.
                                       Regards Graham Marston

Hi Graham

If he was a regular born in 1896 then his service record will still be with the MOD - http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/service_records.html

They charge £30 (free to his widow) and offer no refunds, but I have heard of them finding records when the service number is unknown, as long as you have his DoB.

It was said in the family years ago that John Henry Shore joined the Army underage and was sent home when they found out.He later joined the RAF uslng the name of Shore-Marston.]
He was known in the family as Uncle Harry (dont know where Harry came from).
