help with 1861 census please
« on: Sunday 25 January 09 17:02 UTC (UK) »

trying to find elizabeth ann wood and richard wood.
elizabeth ann was born sept 1854 in stockport and her brother richard was born 1858 in stockport.
their parents were john wood and eliza stott however i think the parents divorced.
her father john is shown on her marriage certificate which was to william turner in june 1875 and he is down as a caster but not saying deceased.
john wood was born stockport abt 1832 and eliza stott was born stockport abt 1836
any help would be greatly appreciated as they all seem to vanish in the 1861 census.
thanks

Hello Belinda

The 1871 census states that Eliza is a widow.Marriage certs don't always state that the father is deceased.

Oops - was just going to post the 1861 census Cath posted - Just adding that next door, there's an Elizabeth Stott, married, whose age looks like 20, Cotton Factory Worker, b. Stockport - maybe a coincidence!

Thank you all for that information. Eliza Stott Married John wood 1853 and she married Joseph Brown in 1871 - Eliza's parents were Thomas Stott and Eliza Gillett - any further help appreciated however where do you think that Eliza AND John Wood could have been in 1861 ?? Huh

It's a littl estrange is it not that in the 1861 census they were down as grandchildren - this relationship is normally to the head and john and martha did not marry till 1865 ?? Huh
