Don't know whether anybody can help with this one, I am looking for a Bartholomew Wesley (Westley) b.1720 at Tiverton, Devon. His father might be Samuel Wesley b.1690 London, brother of John & Charles.
Can anyone shed any light on this, or give me advice on how to research this?
I know Samuel Wesley married Ursula Berry and they had a son Samuel and daughter Philadelphia (Philomena). Any internet searches I have done tend to bring up information on John, Charles or the composer Samuel Wesley (nephew).
I have been looking at our ancient copy of Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians. I am sure you have all this but here it is anyway.... Samuel Sebastian Wesley was born Aug 4th 1810, third son of Samuel the composer and organist. (My husband says he was illegitimate but our Grove is too polite to say that!) Samuel was born Feb 24th 1766. Younger brother of Charles b Dec 11th 1757. They are the sons of Rev Charles (1707-88) and nephews of Rev John Wesley (1703 - 91). This family are well documented and obviously moved away from the west country. You need to look at the actual parish records for Tiverton - borrow the film from your local LDS centre if you are not near the local record office. Are there still Wesleys in Tiverton and area in the census records? Anyway this should have brought your post back to the top and someone with more expertise may be able to help you! Andrea
