Seeking any insight into The Heyfords (Upper and Lower)
« on: Monday 26 January 09 11:24 GMT (UK) »

Hello,

I am a Degree student at Banbury college and have been given a project to do on The Heyfords (Upper and Lower). I am required to do extensive research in all areas of the villages. I was wondering whether you could give me any insight or information you may have in this area. As well as retaining a broad history of The Heyfords i am also looking to hear of any stories and personal experiences in the Heyfords. I am looking for any interesting and unique memories or history from the villages. I am looking for any information on the people who lived in The Heyfords, what job they had etc... to give me idea of the people of The Heyfords. It would be good to have a range of time periods for this. Any photos would be a great help. I am aiming to gather as much information as i can from all different aspects. I am sorry if this is in the wrong forum section, i didn't know where to place it.

Any help and insight would be very much appreciated no matter how little.

Sarah.

Hi Sarah

My paternal grandfather, Charles Harry Turrell was born in Lower Heyford, Northants 13.5.1875.  He followed the family tradition of entering the service of the London & North Western Railway as an engine cleaner and finished a 50+ years career as a Grade 1 Signalman at Lichfield Trent Valley Station.

His forbears in a direct line, father to son, were all in the railway service, although currently I have no record that any of these lived in Lower |Heyford, but they would certainlyhave been from that area.

Charles's father, also called Charles, was b. in Nether Heyford in c. 1839 and is listed in 1891 census as living at Fog Cottage in the village.  We have actually been to the village but could find no trace of this cottage.   We asked some locals but they didn't know it either.

The name of the village seems to have changed from Lower to Nether Heyford .

I hope this helps a bit.  Good luck with your studies and please contact me again if I can help further.

Regards

Stephen
