Aaron COLE -marriage lookup 1850

G'day all
I've just located a mrriage for Aaron Cole in 1850 March qtr on Ancestry but cannot find it mentioned on any other sites.There are 2 possibilities for his wife either anElizabeth or Susan, unfortunately his wife (either Elizabeth or Susan) died in March 1851, so she isn't on the census. There are also 2 entries for both an Elizabeth & Susan Cole died 1851 Mar qtr! How unlucky!!
Could some kind person give me a hand to isolate one of these ladies as Aarons wife?

Hi Annie,

It appears probable that (1851 census)

Francis KENDALL = Jane CHELLEW
Thomas MORRISH = Susan HOOPER Wink

Yet I see there is an Elizabeth COLE buried in St Enoder that quarter. Transcript gives her age as 8. I will check the fiche as soon as I am able. Since she is of St Columb Major I wonder if this may be the daughter of John and Mary Ann, who seem to have been in the area at the time.

What parish were they in?

I see Aaron is in St Enoder in 1841 so If that is correct I may have the banns.

thanks for your help-much appreciated.
Aaron emigrated to Australia and re married in Victoria -on the 2nd marriage cert hes put down widower (5 March 1851 St Enoder). 2nd marriage to an Elizabeth Ann Newman born Somersetshire.
I'm also trying to locate his birth & parents, John Cole & mother Sarah Chog (?) (& their marriage) so I can go back further..
I'll try an upload a copy of the cert for you.

Annie,

I have moved the cert to common room where we will get more opinions than we will get here. ( I suspect CLEGG) Aaron's mother is Elizabeth Tippet by the cert. The name you are uncertain of is Elizabeth Newman's mother.

Again I will give you more once I am able to check the fiche for you. - Another of my parishes of interest. I am at Son's where I have my fiche with me but no reader so will need go to the library when it cools down. It is 43 here at mo Roll Eyes

Guess the library is air conned but I would have to get there. I am getting tempted - the air con here has gone on strike.

John COALL, yeoman of St Enoder = Elizabeth TIPPETT 5 Aug 1809 St Columb Major

1871 conveniently lists Elizabeth and 3 of her children including widowed daughters in the same house Wink

Elizabeth claims a birth of about 1786 St Columb Major

I suspect she is Elizabeth TIPPET bap 23 Mar 1786 daughter of William TIPPET and Elizabeth COAD

Tippet(t) is very common in the area and although common names, some of the christian names of John and Elizabeth's children look good for this theory (William, Elizabeth, Catherine and Fanny)

I had wondered what Williams connection was with John and Grace Stephens (he is with them in 1841) I now see it is his granddaughter. Wink

Aaron's wife did not die in Cornwall.

Aaron COLE = Elizabeth CHELLEW Jun 1/4 1850 St Col 9 81. They emigrated together aboard The Ascendant arriving Pt Adelaide 15 Jan 1851, along with his brother Silas and his wife Ann Teague.

Aaron COLE 23 of Cornwall
Elizabeth COLE age 18 wife of Aaron and Boy born on voyage
Silas COLE 21 of Cornwall and Ann

Although Shipping lists the Child as Male SA BMD indexes list female

COLE Female b 13 Jan 1851 NR (res Chain of Ponds) Dist Ade 3 153 (Parents Aaron COLE and Elizabeth Chelezu (sic)) died 29 Jan 1851 NR Dist Ade 2 60 aged 16 days (Father Aaron Cole)

Elizabeth died 5 Mar 1851 NR Dist Ade 3 153 aged 20 years Rel Aaron COLE Husband res Chain of Ponds.

Aaron and his second wife had at least 8 children in Victoria

I don't know what became of Silas's wife. He remarried in Tasmania in 1855

Thanks Kris, I don't know what else to say! Thats fantastic stuff, at least now I've got some info to go on...
The Cornwall parishes being online is a good thing just wish evreyone else would do it...makes life so much easier..

Banns were read between Aaron COLE otp and Elizabeth CHELLEW Sojourner 7, 14 and 21 Apr 1850 St Enoder

Banns were read between Silas COLE and Ann TEAGUE both otp 18, 25 Aug and 1 Sep 1850 St Enoder

Hi, I am a descendant of Thomas Cole, Aaron's brother. I'm researching my family tree but I'm a bit of a novice so any help would be greatly appreciated. I lived in Cornwall for the first 20 years of my life and my mum and 2 brothers still live there (I now live in Wiltshire). I visit a few times a year and am looking forward to my next visit so I can go to the church and look around for any new info.
