Woohoo!
One of the most useful new databases at An****ry has just been released.
For a couple of days, the birth index from 1984 onwards had been playing up, but it looks like there was a good reason to take it offline.
You can now do a search for any births between 1916 and 2005 using surname and mothers maiden name. I've just found a previously rumoured but never proven great-uncle who died in infancy.
Lets hope they hurry up with the Marriages and deaths, and then start moving backwards.
Providing it is accurate, it will mean that DOVE and MAGPIE will not be needed.

think they are having teething trouble.
I just put my parents names and reg district in and it bought up all births with my surname... no mmn! no worries as many of them are my family anyway but....

It's working fine for me - I put in my own forename/surname (no date) and my mother's maiden name and there I am at the top of the results. The mother's maiden name is not displayed in the list of results but it's obviously being searched on and of course appears in the image when you click on it.
Remind me never to use my mother's maiden name as a password/security check ever again!

no... its fine on all other name combinations that I've tried. Just my maiden name, which is not that uncommon is causing a problem.

You don't need to look at the image just "hover" your pointer over "view record" and you will see the maiden name. Saves a few/many seconds!
BTW must be busy getting the little boy with the noose

I thinks its probably slow due to all those colonials in the America's waking up and seeing it as a new database on their home pages.

It seems to be sort of working, as long as you have exact details. seems to struggle with bigger searches
