I've seen a couple of mentions of this site - has anyone used it - is it worthwhile to subscribe?
http://www.ihr.com.au/#access

Is it available via any libraries perhaps?

thanks

HI Trish,
I subscribe to the site.
It holds a large amount of data, but it is difficult as there  no 'search engine' as such.

For instance, if you want to find someone voting in the 1903 federal election, you really need to know where they were voting, then locate the polling place, (which may be under an obsolete name) then trawl through the pages. ...hit and miss.  So you are very much on your own when seeking information.  It's a bit like being in a big library that doesn't have a librarian.  You just sort of wander round Cheesy

The Sands Directories are slightly more useable, being just alphabetical.

Some of the data is quite obscure, such as the changing hands of remote pastoral runs and the names of liscenced auctioneers

I do find there is discontinuity also with gaps of missing years here and there [invariably the year you want, of course]

Anyhow, having painted a bit of a negative picture, it is inexpensive compared with many and one of those things that might just come in handy if you have it Grin

Many thanks Sue - I appreciate the comments - it's always nice to hear from someone who has used a resource - and I agree, it didn't seem very expensive.

Sometimes trawling unindexed records is the only way to find a critical link - I have an interest in the history of some westeren NSW pastoral holdings - so even that may be of interest - although I believe they are not at all easy to follow.

thanks again
