George Williams (Boatman) & Sarah Lloyd
« on: Thursday 29 January 09 14:04 GMT (UK) »

I am hoping to trace descendants/relatives of my Gt Uncle George Williams who married a Sarah Lloyd aprox 1890's.

George initially worked on the barges, certainly from the age of 12 years (refer to 1881 Census), then he was employed as a coal miner at St Martins, Shropshire, from about 1891 and by 1901 he was living in Chester with his family, once again back on the canal.

1901 Census shows George & Sarah with their following family:

1). Emily - 10 - Nantwich - daughter - 1891

2). Susan A  - 8 - Chirk - daughter - 1893

3). Fred - 6 mths - Chester - son - 1900

George & his family may well have stayed in the Chester area and I would very much like to trace any Descendants/Relatives.

Can anyone out there help?

Cheers

Hi Barbara,

You are fine here on the Cheshire Board.

You probably need to try and find marriages for the children but it will be difficult with a fairly common surname to be sure you have the right ones.

The 1911 census is available on FMP on a pay per view basis - it might be worth trying to find the family there to see if there are more children - it will bridge the gap before the mother's maiden name is shown on the BMD indexes:

http://www.1911census.co.uk/

If you can then find a marriage that you are sure about you can search www.freebmd.org.uk to try and find children from those marriages - but that is incomplete for the period you are searching although you may get lucky!

New databases have recently been made available on a well known subscription site - see this thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,356799.0.html

Using a combination of www.freebmd.org.uk and www.cheshirebmd.org.uk (if they stayed in the same area) might give you some leads.

Hope this is of some help,

Jean
