What Parish Church?
« on: Friday 30 January 09 20:05 UTC (UK) »

I'm have never done any research in this part of England so I'm not sure where to start.

I'm trying to trace a Mary Ann Jennett who was born in Stourbridge between 1800 and 1820.

She may have been Roman Catholic.

What church would she have been baptised at during this time frame  Huh

Hi Mab, according to Kelly's Directory of 1870, Stourbridge did have a Roman Catholic Church, not sure when it was built, need to check an earlier Directory, or contact the Church, must be still there today and ask them.

Are you sure Mary Ann was actually born in Stourbridge, not in one of the nearby towns or Villages?  Best Wishes from linell.

Re where Mary Ann was born.....that's all the information I have. She married an Irishman called James Dooley....who knows when or where  Roll Eyes

I couldn't find them at all in the 1841 census. I got her place of birth from the 1851 census.

Her first child that I found in 1851 was born in Ashton under Lynn (around 1836-7 although no baptism or record found to verify that yet) and then the rest apparently were born (1839-58) in Liverpool.

By the 1861 census she was a widow.

Hi mab,
What would we do without linell Smiley
Found the church for you:

The interenet is great, but that local knowledge is indispensable.
Thanks, linell.

Hi Mab, sorry cannot find the family in 1841.  I even searched for just Arabella and Ellen with their birth dates and no surname.  They don't seem to be on there, perhaps they were visiting their Irish Ancestors at the time of the 1841 Census.  If you list the 1851 Census details on here maybe someone else will have more luck.  Happy hunting from linell.

Hi mab and linell,
Tricky lot aren't they!
I can't find any births either - but I have found a lady who might be worth looking at for a possible connection:
1841 census:
Arabella Jennett b. about 1791 Ireland
Upper Stanhope Street
Toxteth Park, Lancs.
Occupation ? mangle keeper !!!
Bit of a wildcard, but might just be relevent and lead to some answers.
Good luck,

Well done Paulene, with a name like Arabella, (I actually think it is a lovely name, but that's off topic) there has to be a connection, Granny do you think?  Has the right credentials, born Ireland and now living in Liverpool.  Could be that James Dooley and Mary Ann were there too, did you check the neighbours out Paulene?  I suppose James Dooley and family could have been in the same household and just missed off?  Best Wishes linell.

I found a death for Arabella Jennett March Qtr 1852 in Poplar London?  Mab do you have the family after 1851?  If so which ones, do you know when James or Mary Ann died?  Best Wishes linell.
