help with a childs name please

1901 census i have a child named linda allen at 133 greg street, reddish, lancashire, england. parents are john allen (junior) and annie allen nee massey. linda is aged 4 on this census

in 1911 census i have a child named hilda allen at 115 bangor street, reddish parents are john allen and annie allen child is aged 14 on this census.

i cannot find a birth on cheshire bmd - what is this child really called ??

what about Allen  Linda    mar 1897  Stockport  8a 35
or
same quarter Allen  Hilda Jane     Birkenhead  8a 499

yes i have that but the query is that in the 1911 census the child is named HILDA ALLEN daughter and not linda Huh

I'm guessing that Hilda was a chosen name (have you got the original rather than the transcript though?). There doesn't appear to be anyone registered as Hilda in the stockport area. Was Linda a family name they felt they had to use and Hilda the name they wanted to use??

i dont know she was the first linda in the tree and there are no hilda's ?? Huh

How about if the name was Hilda and the name was faded then someone read the

H as  Li

then the il as an n

then da as they are.

I have some Smith family whose name is indexed as Ameth   - I only found them because one christian name was Selena which was fairly rare.

Have you actually looked at the 1911 image or are you just going by the transcript?

I was reading somewhere that there are far more mistranscriptions in 1911 than we thought was possible  Sad

You really need to look at the original. The majority of mine have had some error or other, when I have looked at the original it has all become clear!
