In theory at least you've always needed a death certificate before the deceased can be buried. But many vicars overlooked this requirement, including presumably, the vicar of Yelden! But this was very early days in the era of civil registrations, so perhaps some leeway was granted.

Presumably this is Edward Hodson age 82 who was buried at Yelden on 1 Feb 1838
