Some speculation on my part here Angus  Roll Eyes

Ann Anderson shows as born in Banff, Banffshire c. 1775. There is a possible birth entry for her on IGI:

ANNE ANDERSON  Birth on 06 DEC 1775 Banff, Banff
Parents: GEORGE ANDERSON and ELSPET SYMON

Added: I found an interesting ref on Google, sadly the link does not seem to still be available:

5. Chisholm, Alexander and Mary Milne
    1 Alexander CHISHOLM... +Mary MILNE ?.... 2 Alexander CHISHOLM b: Abt. 1775; Age at marriage: 24 est.; Occupation: Carter ..... +Anne ANDERSON b: 07-05-1774 in Banff, Scotland; m

www.wholesalerdiscounts.com/search/extremesearch.php?search=alexander+chisholm&override=

There is actually a birth showing on this date (07-05-1774):

ANNE ANDERSON Birth: 05 JUL 1774 Banff, Banff
Parents:JAMES ANDERSON and MARGARET GRAY

Interesting to see mother's name as Margaret, potentially first born daughter and James for second born son from the list of children from IGI.

A possible entry for Thomas Anderson, who lived next door to Ann in 1841/51 is this one:

THOMAS ANDERSON Birth:13 AUG 1773/ Christening 15 AUG 1773 Cullen, Banff
Parents:JOHN ANDERSON and ELSPET FRASER

If a connection between Ann and Thomas, maybe it was one generation back?

Monica

Added: Just in case there is a connection, for reference to the parents' banns/marriage:

12 NOVEMBER 1768 JOHN ANDERSON in the parish of Cullen and ELSPET FRASER in this parish were Matrimonially Contracted Consigned Pledges. [Vol.2 p.44a 42a]. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/sheena_charles/R_Marrs2.htm

Monica
Many thanks for your info, sorry for the delay in answering.

I have just got a new computer and have been fighting withit.

what I was hopeing to find was had happened  to Anne Anderson
and Margaret Chisholm after 1851.

I spent a bit of time in Edinburgh looking at all Andersons and Chisholms but
nothing seemed to stand out.

Thrifts Watts marriage record form Aberdeen in 1855 indicates that
Margaret was his mother and was not recorded as (deceased)

With the info you have found I will have another go in June when I'm over.

Hi Angus

This looks a possible entry for mother Margaret in 1861:

Margt Thomson 64, head, spinster, b. Boyndie, Banffsh
Margt Chisholm 55, lodger, spinster, b. Boyndie, Banffsh
Address: 8 Church St, Portsoy

For the 1871 census, Margaret shows alone:

Margaret Chisholm 61, Domestic Servant (formerly), b. Boyndie
Address: 29 Aird Street, Portsoy

Can't easily see her after this date on the censuses, except maybe this entry:

Margaret Chisholm    67, retired servant, b. Bennie, Banff
Address: Barclay Street, Stonehaven, Fetteresso, Kincardineshire

There is a death showing in Fetteresso in 1888 which might be Margaret's, aged 83. There is a connection from what I've seen on Thrift to Fetteresso in this period, so this could well be his mother.

Thank you again Monica
The 1888 Death of Margaret CHISHOLM at 55 Allerdice St, Stonehaven on 26 Jukly
from General Decay was registered by Thrift WATT, son , of
King Street Stonehaven. so she was his mother.
her Father is listed as Alexander CHISHOLM, Farm Overseer Mother Anne ANDERSON
both deceased.

Based on OPR search she was the only Margaret Chishom born in Banff between 1790 and 1825
based on this she was born September 19 1804 baptized 7 october Father Alexander Chisholm
Mother Anne Anderson, born at Whyntie, Boyndie , Banff.

I beliive from your notes Monica that she was at 72 Barclay Street Stonehaven 1881
even althought the parish of birth is wrong (it does not exsist) ,and the age looks like it was transposed.
Again only one response to my search in Kincardine for a Margaret Chisholm and this was it.

1871 Confirm that she was at 29 Aird st Portsoy by her self.

I was unable to get a hit in 1861 for Margaret Chisholm. I wonder why?

also I wonder where she is buried and in there is an MI

Hi Angus

Not sure how Margaret may have been transcribed by Scotlands People for the 1861 census, there are two showing in Fordyce but not at the age we have on the transcript. There is a Marg* Thomson, 64, showing in Fordyce, maybe this is a way of accessing the household for that entry?

The entries I have included come from a transcript (not always know for its accuracy in spellings  Roll Eyes which accounts for example for the discrepancy on birth place in 1881.
