Hello,
Australian records show that my GGGrandfather William Corcoran was born in Castledermot in 1830. I believe that he had a brother called Patrick, but do not have any other information.
He married Bridget Hanlon in Dublin in 1852, so he may have moved there.
Could anyone please assist me, as I am not having any luck finding more information ?
Kind Regards
Sue

Kildare is one of the counties included in the pay site of the Irish Family History Foundation at www.irish-roots.ie :
Church Baptism Corcoran William 1833 , Carbury RC parish, Co. Kildare
Carbury is over 50km north of Castledermot.. so I dont know if thats the same family....
also a better match to the place but 5 years out...
Church Baptism Corcoran William 1835 Castledermot RC parish, Co. Kildare

Thank you Shane,
I have also noticed the William Corcoran born in 1835. Do you think that records could be out by that much ?
Do you live in Ireland ?
Kind Regards
Sue

reported ages vary quite a bit - so I would think 5 years is not that much.
Some of my ancestors under-reported their own ages by more that 8 years on a 1901 census - mind you they got the grandchildrens ages exactly right.
I dont know how big Castledermot parish is but if the location information is accurate then the William listed could be connected.
I live in Dublin...

Hello Shane,
I am coming to Ireland in June and staying in Dublin. Where would be the best place to look for records ?
I am going to Castledermot and also to Tully (Dublin) to check on Parish records. That is if I can find anything left in Tully, maybe Dun Laoghaire would have more information ??
It is so much easier in Australia as I know where to look .
Thank you once again,
Regards Sue

The National Library, Kildare Street in Dublin is the place that you can access the Catholic Parish Registers on Microfilm.
They have a document on the website with a list of the parishes/dates/film numbers etc. I'll post a link later.
If any of the family were still in Ireland after 1864 then the GRO is the place for Civil records - in the Irish Life Centre. They have Birth, Marriage Death details after that date.

Thank you so much Shane,
I did not know the National Library had Parish records, do they have them all or would I need to go to the actual towns ?
Given Bridget Hanlon was born in Tully, Kingstown, where do you suggest I look, or would I find them at the Library ? They were both Catholic.
Sorry about all the questions,
Regards Sue

The NLI should have the surviving Catholic registers. See they list they hold at this link : http://www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx
Some didn't survive and other don't go back as far as the 1830s...
The IFHF website includes records for Kingstown/Dun Laoghaire in the South County Dublin section.
