I need help to find Robert Thomas Partridge (usually known as Thomas) born c.1819 Orsett, Essex, England.
This is what I've found so far: 1841: living with widowed mother Mary at Orsett. 1851: unmarried, master plumber, living with brother Daniel and family at Orsett.
*** No trace in the intervening UK censuses. ***
1887: someone, possibly he, obtained copies of the burial certificates of his parents. 1891: widower, retired plummer(!), living with brother Daniel at Fobbing, Essex. 1897: died.
Both brothers were due a modest inheritance from their uncle Thomas who died in 1836, the estate not finally wound up until his widow died in 1863.
Did Robert live abroad during the middle part of his life? I wonder if anyone can help locate him
Mike.

The following is listed in the Australian Genealogical Computer Index that may warrant further research as I see no marriage in any state.

Hi,
Thanks for that; I've added a note to my file, for further investigation.
Mike.

I found Robert in the Orsett Parish Records (by looking at FHL film). He was baptized 24 Dec 1820 in Orsett. The record doesn't say where the family was living at the time - I'm assuming Orsett since the census records state he was born there.
FYI - I found the following family members in the Orsett Parish records (all were listed as children of Robert and Mary): Joseph Partridge - baptized 14 Dec 1817 Thomas Robert Partridge - baptized 25 Nov 1818 Robert Partridge - baptized 24 Dec 1820 Daniel Partridge - Baptized 10 Mar 1822 (must have died young, but not listed in burial records for Orsett Parish) Daniel Partridge - baptized 1 Aug 1824
I haven't been able to bring any of the children forward, except for Daniel.
The Orsett Parish Records had the following Partridge baptisms (all were listed as children of Daniel and Mary): Mary Annice - bp 20 Jun 1850 (I'm wondering if she's the Mary listed in the bmd deaths for 1855) Daniel Edward - bp 31 Oct 1852 (probably the Daniel in BMD deaths listed in 1855) Daniel Edward - bp 12 Aug 1855 Mary Annice - bp 25 Mar 1860 Mary Emmeline - bp 25 Jan 1866
None of them are listed in the Orsett burial records. I'm wondering if they were all buried somewhere near family? Possibly Daniel's children were buried in Purleigh, since that's where his wife's family was from and it's not tooooo far away??
Hope this helps. Annette

Hi Annette,
Wow! That's brilliant. Several there that I was not aware of so I'm really grateful. Thanks for taking so much trouble. And welcome to RootsChat
I only knew of 2 children of Robert & Mary, one being Daniel and there was some confusion whether the other was Thomas Robert or Robert Thomas, but I guess the Parish Register should be right. There is certainly no evidence in family records for the other three surviving.
Daniel and Mary were married at Whitechapel, and I believe the Partridges came from that area, so perhaps that is where family members were buried. Having obtained the certificates, I know their first two children died of Scarlatina aged 4 and 2, and were indeed the ones in the BMD, as you suggest.
Daniel and his father were licensees of the Orsett Cock pub from around 1817 to 1871, and Daniel's uncle Thomas lived at nearby Stifford. His will left everything to his 2 nephews, Thomas & Daniel, which implies that there were no other surviving family at the time (1832)
I very much appreciate your help as I've had a struggle to build up a picture of this branch of the family. I hope I may be able to return the favour some time.
Mike.
PS. I just remembered that Robert & Mary were buried at Stifford, so possibly their children were also there.
