Glad to see you've made contact with Ann. I did read her previous posts & noted a link!   Ann may be a neighbour of mine as I too live approximately 7 miles from Longside! It's a small world.

Hi Ann,
Your gt. gt. grandfather was Joseph Pickard my gt. gt. gt.
grandmother was Mary Pickard.
I suppose this makes us cousins of some sort I have no idea how many times removed.
One other thing do you know where your gt. gt. grandfathers middle name of Cumming came from.
I found marriage of a James Rennie to a Jane Cumming in Longside not my James as he married Mary but possibly a family member.
Please let me know if you know anything of the Rennie side of the family.
Regards
Jim

Hi Jim,

I'm not sure where the Cumming comes from, but i will look into it. I must admit i stopped researching a few months ago because i found i was never off the computer, it gets so addictive. Now i'v recharged my batteries and am raring to go. Its great to get feed back on family members. I'll start searching again over the weekend

Hi

I have just registered here and the very first message I read involves the Pickard family from Longside.  My gg grandfather was William Pickard, born in Longside in 1831 to William Piccard and Elizabeth Brown (they are buried at Longside Parish Church).  He married Isabella Gray Smith in 1853 (also a double marriage).  They moved to farms in Cruden and are buried there.   I would be delighted to exchange further information, although it is several years since I did any research.

Hi, Can I ask if you know of a James Rennie who was born c1829 Scotland & left to live in Manchester?  he [m] Elizabeth Hughes & he had 3 children: William, Helen (Jessie), & Hannah or Harrien.

I know it's a long shot but I just wondered if you knew him?

Hi again

Do any of you have any theories as to why William Piccard (snr) would have moved from Sileby to Longside?  I have wondered whether he may have been stationed up here when a soldier, or whether the owners of Cairngall may have had some connection to Leicestershire.

Hi MeeToo,
I have also wondered how William snr. came to be in Longside but on viewing a family tree on Genes Reunited
it gives Williams father also William as being born in Aberdeenshire not sure if this is correct.
I am particularly interested in James Rennie who married
Mary Brown Pickard do you have any information on him
IE. where born birth year or who his parents were
If you are interested I have the names of Williams parents
but only approximate birth years no other information on them
sorry.
Regards
Jim

Hello Jim

I'm afraid I don't have any information on Mary Pickard or James Rennie, other than her baptism date.  I have concentrated on my direct line, noting only sibling info if it has been at hand.  I do have William snr's parent names thanks, as well as some further back ones.  These were given to me by another descendent and as yet I haven't checked any of them out.

Hi Jim

I have followed up whether or not the Hutchison family, who owned Cairngall, had any connection with the Leicestershire area - but no, they don't.  So that closes that line of thought.
