I am trying to find records of the Perry family of Empingham pre-1841. The earliest ancestor I have so far is a male, first name unknown, who was a farm labourer. He married Catherine Ablett of Edith Weston who was born c. 1808. She was a widow by 1841. I am hoping that a marriage record will provide more information about him. Catherine's parents were Edward b. c.1776 and Ann b.c. 1765.

Dear DebbieG I was delighted with your very prompt and helpful reply. Do the Empingham parish records go back any earlier to search for more of my Perrys in the 18th century? Many thanks Peterkin

Peterkin,
I have myself been looking at exactly this line of my family tree!! I am a direct ancestor of James Perry, son of Francis Perry (born 1809). If there is any information you need post 1841 I'd be happy to oblige, and equally, if there is any more you learn pre 1841 - that would also be useful!!
Ps, the Leicestershire Records Office is 3 minutes walk from where I work .. so I can look things up fairly easily.
How do you fit into this lineage? I'd be interested to know whether we are related!! lol

Hallo Perry 86. Your message was a welcome surprise. Yes, I believe we come from the same stock. My ancestor is also Francis b.1809 who had a son Francis b.1841. He lived in Empingham as a farm labourer. One of his sons Amos was my grandfather - he became a gamekeeper and smallholder at Laxton. His daughter Annie Louise, b.1905, was my mother, marrying William Henry Horton of Easton on the Hill. Amos had a sister Ada, living in Empingham and married to Frank Marshal who was blind. I remember them well from my childhood.

The Perry's on my side stayed in Empingham for a while longer. Your Francis had a brother, James - who married a woman called Eleanor Weldon. They had a son called John William Perry and the legacy of the 'John Perry's was born .. 3 generations were all so called until my dad, who's middle name is John. They went into iron laboring and eventually steel. John Thomas Perry (b 1898) and his family moved to Melton because of its proximity to Howell. So my line has settled here now.
I'm interested in hearing more about yourself. I've been told its quite unusual that I'm doing all my family tree so young (23!) but I think it's amazing that you can meet people like this!
