Comins of Lincolnshire
« on: Wednesday 04 February 09 09:13 UTC (UK) »

I am researching the descendants of the Comins family of Wainflett, Lincolnshire 1690, and their spread accross Lincs, Cambs, South Yorkshire and West Midlands.

I've just found my family are descended from Edward Comins of Wainfleet, born 1699 - was bowled over to find his will and his son's at the Lincolnshire archives a couple of weeks ago. I guess he must be one of the Cominses you're talking about?

Good to hear from you trixie61.

I have traced my wife's ancestors back to John Comins 1690 Wainfleet. He had two younger brothers - Robert 1695 and your Edward 1699. We believe that your Edward married a Mildrid (Mildred) and went on to have at least three children.

Yep, that's us!  I was so lucky to find the will - Edward was a grazier, married to Mildred as you say, and names 4 sons in the will - John, Edward, Robert and Antient.  All were under 21 at the time Edward died in 1690 - the Mr John Antient of Halton and Mr George Antient of Little Steeping were named as guardians to the executors, so that must be where Antient's unusual name comes from.

The archives also hold his son John's will (1742), who is my family's direct ancestor.  He was married to Elizabeth, and had sons John (1766) and Edward.  At the time of the will in 1797, Edward was a soldier in His Majesty's 5th Regiment of Foot stationed in Quebec.  John was the younger, married to Ann and also a grazier in Thorpe (next Wainfleet) - their children mentioned in the will were William, Elizabeth, Mary and Ann.  He was to inherit the estate after his mother's death.  John and Ann went on to have more children and my family is descended from their son Joseph (1808).

Our branch of the family lived in Hundleby in the nineteenth century and then Grimsby in the twentieth, but now we're scattered across the UK.
