Hi, help needed please,
I am looking for the descendants/relatives of Alfred Roberts, born. - Oswestry, Shropshire.1869 ish .
I think Alfred was a coachman in London in 1891/1901, married to Annie Cecilia Stone in 1889 and they had a son ,also named Alfred, born 1890 in Westminster.
Do these names mean anything to someone out there?
Hope so
Barbara.

I'm trying to move forward with this one.
I have the following info:
Alfred Roberts ( shown as a Stableman) married Annie Cecilia Stone in Kensington in 1889.
I have their marriage cert so I know them to be the right people because of the parents' details.
1891 Census shows them living with their baby son, still in London, and Alfred now shows as a Coachman.
1901 Census shows the family still in London, Alfred still a Coachman.
1911 Census shows them living in Lambeth, with their son Alfred, now 21 yrs old and working as a Chauffeur.
Alfred (Snr) still working as a Coachman.
Now I'm stuck, I can't seem to progress further.
Would anyone know if there Records kept anywhere of people in that field of work at that time?
I'm not sure how to move on, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Barbara.
Addition:
I've also been looking at death records after 1911 for both Alfre (Snr) & his wife, but to no avail, unless I've missed somethig - there's so many!!

Hi,
Alfred jnr. is of an age to have served in WW1; have you looked for his records?
I'm not sure if there are any records of either chauffeurs or coachmen.
Have you looked for a marriage for Alfred jnr. or the deaths of his parents?
There might be others researching this line; have you checked a site like Genes Reunited?

Hi Barbara
I’ve just read your query on “Occupations”. I have been told how in the early 1900’s an employer decided to buy a car and sent his groom up to Birmingham for training and to return with the car all in one day! Although the chauffeur didn’t have to pass a driving test, he did have to obtain a licence from his local Council. The chauffeur later worked in central London. When he retired he moved back into his home county, but not to where he had lived with his parents, so I can appreciate that you will have a problem finding where Alfred and Annie Cecilia died, although Annie Cecilia should be easier to find in the GRO Index.
You could try another way of locating your Roberts family. Check if your local archives have the microfiches of the Index to the National Probate Calendar (from 1858 onwards). The index gives you the person’s name, occupation, normal address, address where he/she died, date of death and probate, names and occupations of executors. Value of effects. The executor is likely to be their spouse, or Alfred Junior, if he was their only child. So the right combination of names in the Probate Calendar should help you find your Roberts and discard the others.
Even though you don’t know when Alfred and Annie Cecilia died, or whether they left wills, at least you wont be wasting money on the wrong death certs!
If they did leave wills, you may find other family names in the brief description of the probate. You can also send for copies. See http://www.hmcourts-service.gov.uk/infoabout/civil/probate/aboutus.htm
The website also provides a list of other English addresses where you can search the Probate Calendar and order copies.
You may also be able to find out if and when they left the Lancaster Gate address by checking the electoral roll/register, IF they have survived. Alfred could vote in both local and parliamentary elections and Annie Cecilia could vote in local elections before she could vote in parliamentary ones. See an explanation in an article at http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/trail/local_history/industry/history_of_pottery_fact_file.shtml
