Hello Stratfordite. Here are the Tow law inscriptions for Moses and one for Mosey:-

In loving memory of Christopher Moses, who died 2/October/1933 aged 71 years.
And of his beloved wife Edith Jane Moses, who died 28/January/1935 aged 60 years.
Also baby Gibson 1897--1899.

In loving memory of Joseph, beloved husband of Phebe Ellen Moses, who died
3/July/1937 aged 78 years.
Also the above Phebe Ellen Moses, who died 24/June/1946 aged 84 years.
Also Evelyn Lidia Moses, daughter of the above (rest unreadable)

In loving memory of Annie Mary, beloved wife of William Moses of Huh? Sunniside, who died January/2/1905 aged 35 years (this was difficult to read because the lead infill to the inscription has been removed)

In loving memory of Elizabeth, wife of William Mosey of Tow Law, who died August/5/1873? aged 70 years.
Also the above William Mosey, ?? August.
This stone has been vandalised? and is laid flat. It looks like it has been damaged by the constant wear of possibly the grass cutter.

Hello Tay. I think you have had the wrong information about  the church that you are inquiring about.
The church near Billy Row is the church of St Thomas, Stanly, Crook.
There is one Dawson gravestone and six for Bell.
I can post them on the board, but they will have to be posted on the correct board so things do not get confused.
There is a graveyard a Tow Law with 3 Bell surnames and 2 Dawson.
Once again you can have those as well but they will also have to be on the correct board.

Hello Tay. Perhaps I should have said go to the correct subject heading and then post them.
It does cause confusion if requests for "example" a look up for  Frosterley is requested under the subject heading for Wolsingham.

Hello

My great great grand-father Walter Scott is reportedly buried in Tow Law Cemetery. He died 18th July 1909 aged 66. I notice that you have named a Scott in your list. I was hopeful that you could tell me whether this is my ancestor.  O by the way he was a circus proprietor and was supposed to have performed in front of queen victoria.

thanking you

Hello Michelle. There are 3 gravestones for Scott but unfortunately none for a Walter Scott.
I had a look at all other graveyards inscriptions in the area with out luck.

Hello Adam

Many many thank yous for answering.  I am a bit disappointed not to find my great great grandfather, never mind.  I wonder why it was reported he was buried at Tow Law! Is there more than one cemetery there? Out of curiosity what are the first names of the Scotts buried there?

I really appreciate your help

all the best

Hello Michelle. There is no reason to doubt that your great great grandfather
was not  buried at Tow Law.
Lots of gravestones have not survived the ravages of time or the politically correct and over sensitive council, that odered the removal of what they say were potentially unsafe gravestones.
There are 837 at the Dans castle cemetery and 21 at St Philips church yard.
Even the St Philip's churchyard have gravestones that have been pushed over to lay face down.  I don't think the in scription will never be seen again.
As for other graveyard and cemeteries in the area. I have done all the inscriptions and Walter Scott is not among them.
Here are the Scott gravestone inscriptions from Tow Law:-

In loving memory of William Scott, of North View, Tow Law, who died March/19/1883 aged 65 years.
Also Hannah Scott, wife of the above who died January/15/1900 aged 76 years.

S J Scott of the Tow law Hotel, born January/23/1869 died May/1/1908.

In loving memory of Eric Scott, who died December/1/1941 aged 82 years.
(that one was difficult to read)

Thank you so much for your help Adam.

My Walter had a brother and son called William.  So I wonder if the William is connected.

Anyway, i t is brilliant you have recorded all the names, that not all will be lost forever.
