Hello Wearsider. Here are the inscriptions for Tow Law.
In Memory of Stephen Fullerton, who died May/19?/1861 aged 65 years. Also of Alice Fullerton, his beloved wife, who died November/28/1871 aged 60 years. And of William Fullerton, son of the above who died April/10/1887 aged 25 years. And of Margaret Fullerton, wife of Thomas Fullerton, who died May/4/1884?/ aged 33 years. Also Thomas Fullerton, who died June/11/1876 aged 40 years. (parts of this stone were difficult to read)
In memory of Jonathon Vickers, beloved husband of Jane E Spencer, died march/4/1932 aged 44 years.
Affectionate remembrance of Thomas Vickers, who departed this life, November/2/1884 aged 22 years.
There are nine Watson gravestones. Can you give me some Christian names?

Adam - many thanks for the information. Stephen & Alice Fullerton are my gr gr grandparents and Thomas & Margaret are my gr grandparents. Regarding William Fullerton I have him as being b 1841 which would make him 45 or 46 at his death. You say that parts of this stone are very hard to read.
Regarding the Watsons, I am looking for information on Hannah d 1939: Elizabeth b 1875; Frederick Gordon b 1877; George b 1901 d c1970; William b 1862.

In loving memory of Jessie, the beloved wife of George Watson, of Addley? terrace, Tow law, who died Dec/22/1901 aged 43 years. Also George, beloved husband of the above who died may/16/1936 aged 80 years.
In loving memory of Alexander Watson, who died Dec/1/1900? age 51 years. Also Robert Fullerton, son of the above who died April/3/1899 age 10 years. Also Margaret Jane, daughter of the above died September/25/1898? aged 17 years. The stone above, along with lots in the Tow law cemetery are difficult to read.

In loving memory of John Hind, of Inkerman, who died December/7/1890 aged 57 years
John Hind, ?? who departed this life November/30/1886 aged 60? years ( parts difficult to read)
A small flower vase. In loving memory of George Hind. No dates or age given.

Sacred to the memory of James Rowe of Tow law who died October/12/1860 aged 51 years. Also Elizabeth Davison, daughter of the above who died December/3/1863 aged 28 years. Also Ann Rowe the beloved wife of James Rowe who departed this life December/29/1871 aged 55 years. Also Mary Ann, wife of John Young who died September/2/1873 aged 34 years. Also Isabella, the beloved wife of Thompson Naisbit who died June/11/1876 aged 37 years.
In loving memory of Annie the beloved wife of Coniah Rowe who died March/17/1912 aged 64 years. Also the above Coniah Rowe who died November/25/1916 aged 73 years.
In loving memory of George, dearly beloved husband of Mary Thompson of Hedley Hill, who departed this life March/26/1908 aged 66 years.
In memory of Elizabeth, the beloved wife of John Thompson of Tow law, who died September/4/1873 aged 56 years. Also the above John Thompson, who died August/6/1891 aged 81 years.
In loving memory of Robert William, beloved son of Thomas and Hannah Thompson who died September/11/1886 aged 4 months.
In loving memory of Sarah Ellenor Thompson, died 16/July/1938 aged 69 years. Also George, husband of the above died 1/May/1919 (no age given)
There is another stone with dates of 1962, 1974, 1982, 1985, 1986 with the names of Thompson and Harle.
I do no like posting these later dated inscriptions on the board but if they were yours and you wanted them, I could send them.

Hello Lynn. First look at the local history websites. Check their publications page to see what churches or cemeteries have been completed. Go to the place that you would like to work on and have a walk round, checking the condition of the gravestones. I find the industrial areas are usually better than the country ones because they do no have the amount of the dreaded lichen. Wait until the autumn to start(less grass, weeds and trees/bushes to struggle against) All you need then is a soft brush and a little hand spray. Never try to scrape a stone because that only speeds up the weathering etc.
