Ibi
I know you have access to earlier English census's, would there be any clues on those although I have no idea when Henry died, there might be something. I guess they would be in the Hull area if you haven't been able to find anything in Scotland.
I am clutching at straws now!

That looks promising.
I wonder if we could find a marriage for him.
Like you said earlier, Gadget - it ain't easy!

Hi Carole

There is another scenario. Henry Bedford could be her father but her parents never married. It was quite usual for children to be called by their father's surname.

Alternative,y, the marriage forms in Scotland were much more lenient that in England and Wales. Ibi will fill you in on the various marriage forms - he and JAP are the experts  Smiley

I'll check for a marriage again but I'm sure that I looked before - so many looks that I can't remember what I've done  Undecided

Thanks for all your help Gadget, everyone has been really helpful on this one - what a shame all of your efforts have been in vain.

Don't give up, Carole.

Nothing is in vain. We've added to the collection of info about various people on this thread  Smiley

Also, although I have a few brick walls in my tree, I always reckon that someday, somewhere, I'll find something.

I'll have another look.

Hi Carole

There are quite a few Bedfords in Sculcoates on the 1881 - some b. Hull - on the 1881 census. It might be worth you having a look at them on the  the LDS site (free 1881 census index)  to see if there's anything that might link up.

Thank you Gadget, both these look interesting. I will investigate further.
I have a friend in Hull who can look on the Burgess Roll.
The marriage cert says Eleanor and George's address was Stepney Lane so he should be able to work backwards to see if they turn up at either of the ones you gave me.
I can see light at the end of the tunnel!!
Regards

We can forget the last message. I have been in touch with my friend and the department dealing with the Burgess Roll in Hull Library is closed for about 12 months!
