She's certainly making it a bit of a challange - I,m going to need a LARGE sheet of paper to write all possibles down and than try to eliminate the impossibles.
Wonder if she made it up as she went through life or went for whatever seemed suitable, or did her parents move around the area( now there's a thought)
Good map

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllll, if she's the Ayrshire one in 1861, then she's not the Creetown one who was in Suffolk so is she the Penninghame one
I'm just thinking that Cree Bridge was pretty proximate to all 4 parishes

Ahhhhhhhhh.........................
I've just relooked at them on the 1871. They have a daughter, Ellen, aged 5. Looks like the first and only daughter as well. A good link with the Penninghame one - mother Helen Digny

Just in case it is them, there's a marriage on the IGI, extracted:
Kirkcowan, Wigtownshire
9 March 1833 Peter McDowall and Helen Digny

Right - we might be getting somwwhere. I've just found the death certificate of a Peter McDowall in Kilmarnock, Ayr in 1858, aged 23. Parents - Peter McDowall, labourer and Helen. m.s. Digney
Peter, his father, was the informant.
This ties in nicely with the 1851 Agnes in Sorn, Ayrshire
Added - it looks as if Helen might be deceased

You,ve certainly found a lot of info for me to digest.
Looking like they moved to the Kilmarnock area, re my John b 1855 (Born Airelere Cannot find it) I'm now wondering about his birth date in Galston of 1863 Eight years differant, unless there were 2 Johns, now I'm really confused

Have you got the 1871 census handy, Woolley? I can't remember exactly how old John was on there but I thought it was 14-16.

Oops - my maths are up the creek tonight
Very odd unless it was a late registration - it might be worth 6 units on SP though
