Fleeing the Famine - TV programme

Sitting here on my day off, loafing about in front of the TV, laptop on lap, I am watching a very interesting programme 'Fleeing the Famine' on the History Channel. It's specifically about a voyage from Limerick to Toronto in 1847, but of relevance to anyone with Irish migrant ancestors.

Compared with their hazardous crossing and the conditions they endured, the trouble I had getting to work through Monday's snow doesn't seem so bad now.

A couple of years ago, I visited the Dunbrody Famine Ship at New Ross in County Wexford. It is a replica ship but it gave a very clear picture of how difficult life must have been on board. The thing which struck me most of all was just how tiny it was and how cramped the passengers were.
