James Blain in Inch
« on: Thursday 05 February 09 22:19 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to get a confirmation of the parents of James Blain of Inch who married Marey McKibbon. on Dec 12, 1782.  Initial information indicates that he may be the son of a William Blain of Barr, Ayrshire.  I saw these names mention in another MI lookup thread and the bells went off as I am a direct descendent of James and Marey.  Does anyone have any information that may identify James' parents?

Regards,

Hi Murray

Welcome to RootsChat  Smiley

Not the answer to your question, but wondered whether you had seen this, with references to James and Marey:

An interesting link, Monica.

I particularly enjoyed the tale of the Kelly who moved from Wigtownshire to Ireland and back again! I hadn't known of this occurrence before. They certainly could tell stories in those times. Thank you for this interesting insight.

Monica, thank you for the link.  No, I had not seen that before.  It appears as though the Blains in Inch had quite a history.  The name James and William keep appearing all the way down the line to and including my father.  I'm afraid I broke the mold on this branch although my brother has James as a second name.  Jenny's writeup was a little vague in determining  where the James Blain that married Marey McKibbon originated from.  She was also however able to reinforce what I had believed for some time in that Marey McKibbon and Elizabeth McCubbin were likely the same person.  I will continue to investigate to determine if that James Blain was the same that came from Barr in Ayrshire.  As I live in Canada, it is very difficult to investigate some of these leads personally.

Thanks again Monica

There is a contact email showing on the site for Jenny Blain. Why don't you contact her directly and see whether you can compare notes. Hope you are able to progress  Smiley
