Missing in Summerhill, Enniscorthy, Ireland.
« on: Friday 06 February 09 17:27 UTC (UK) »

~~~~~~~~
Hi.
I was telling my  Wife, Marie, what great site this is. I told her what I'd been doing & about the very kind response I had got. She replied "Why not do something of real? Find out about my Grandmother!" So here goes.
Mary Quirke was born in Ireland, around 1896. She met Michael Bolger in 1925. Michael already had six Kids (His Wife had died) They were married on 6 September 1926 at Enniscorthy Cathedral. Her Father is named as Patrick Quirke (Labourer) The Marriage took place in the presence of Patrick Kelly & Maggie Kemple. Michael & Mary went to live at 3 Summerhill, Enniscorthy. On the 25th of September 1927, they had a Son, Peter Bolger, (My Wifes Father) Not long after the birth She disappeared! (Or did a runner).
A few Years later Peter asked about  his Mum. His Father told never to mention her name in this house again. He didn't.
Peter is now 81 years old. He's mellowed a lot & knows he'll never meet her alive. Now he just wants to take a trip back to Ireland & lay some flowers, wherever she may be resting.
                                                 Thank you all,
                                                                              Terry.
Hya, Ballagh,
No, we don't know where she is buried. That's the problem! To make things more difficult we don't know her Mothers name or where in Ireland Mary Quirke was born.
Anyway, thanks fo the email. See ya.
Hi Terry,
Born c.1896 Mary should be on the 1901 and 1911 census. That is probably your best place to start.
I had a quick look at the FamilySearch site for Co. Wexford and can see only 1 marriage for a Patrick Quirke from 1880 – 1900 and it’s in the Enniscorthy area. You might find more if you try a few different search parameters, but if there is only one it may well be your man.
Name: Patrick Quirk
Registration district: Enniscorthy
Record type: MARRIAGES
Registration date - quarter and year: Jan - Mar 1887
Volume: 4
Page: 487
Again, a quick search for Mary’ birth found very few in and around 1896 in the Enniscorthy area.
Mary’s address at the time of the marriage should be recorded on the cert. and you may be able to use that to positively identify her family.
Unfortunately, Patrick and Mary are such common names that you may find a few Quirke families that have Patrick as father and Mary as daughter.
Good luck with your search.
Dara.
Hi Terry,
Silly me. I forgot to mention that the reason I was saying to find Mary's family was that it is possible that she is buried with her parents or at least in the same graveyard.
Hi, Dara,
Thank you for the latest email. I agree with what you say. We've been going along that path but to no avail, so far. I know she's not a figment of our imagination, otherwise my Wife wouldn't be here!
I think something very traumatic took place for her to leave the marital home in the year 1927. How did she support herself for a start?
Can you tell me more about the FamilySearch Site, please. Thanks again.
                                Cheers,
                                             Terry.
