Richard Brownrigg-born Dec 11, 1817
« on: Thursday 21 April 05 06:42 UTC (UK) »

This is my ggg grandfather who was supposedly born in County Wicklow, possibly in Mullins, parish of Kilcommon, like his father William Brownrigg.  Richard's mother was Jane Morris.  Can anyone tell me exactly where he was born?  Also, can anyone confirm the place of birth of his father who was born in 1785.

Hello Peggy,

What denomination was Richard? Was he a members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland) or possibly a Presbyterian?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hello,
All I can say is that in 1851 in Canada, as per census, Richard's religion is given as Anglican. Later on, in 1881, says Church of England. Then he buried in the Baptist Cemetery in 1906.  So definitely Protestant.
Richard's father is buried in the Anglican Church Graveyard in L'Acadie, Quebec.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Peggy,

There are 2 headstones in Rathnew Cemetery, Merrymeeting, Rathnew, Co Wicklow. I know it is much later than you are looking for, but maybe some time it will help you. If you want to get in touch with the Secretary of this cemetery it is Billy Roberts, Secretary, Rathdrum & Wicklow Joint Burial Board, Wicklow County Council, Whitegates, Wicklow Town.

Don't know his E.mail address, but will try and get it if you would like. His details give the date  of purchase of plot, purchers name, and address, plus any other members burried in these graves whose names may not have been entered on the headstone. This cemetery only opened in 1905

"Lilly Brownrigg, Dundrum, Dublin, who died 22nd July 1972 aged 58 yrs. Her husband George died11 July 1987 aged 87 yrs"
2 "William Brownrigg, Ballinatone, died 20th July 1966 aged 75 yrs. His wife Rosanna (Anne) died 27th June 1986 aged 77 yrs.

Hi JMF,
This is very interesting.  I will contact Billy Roberts. It would be useful to have his email address if possible, as that certainly speeds up communication.
I see George is born 1900 and William 1891.  May help with putting the tree together.
Thanks so much for sending this.
