Hi

I have an Ethel Flinders b1922 and registered in Birkenhead.  She married John Blackwell in 1942 also registered in Birkenhead.  I'm trying to find out about her parents, who they were and where they came from.

I've exhausted all the sites I know of so I'm looking for help please.

Bob, the bad news , which you probably know, is that you will need to get her birth cert. to find the names of both parents or her marriage cert which should give you her father's name and occupation. 7GBP each will cost..

Not a very cheerful answer but maybe you'll have to end up doing this...  Sad

Hi Bob,

You can see the birth registration at www.freebmd.org.uk:

Dec 1922 Birkenhead 8a 663 - mother maiden name is given as CLINTON.

I have had a look for a FLINDERS/CLINTON marriage but can't see anything.

Hi Bob

There is an entry on a submitted tree on ancestry for Ethel Flinders.   This shows she was born 26/8/1922 Birkenhead, d.26/12/2003 married to John William Robert Blackwell.

She is shown as the daughter of Harry Flinders b. Sheffield (no other information about him) and Rose Ann Clinton - Rose b.1882 Liverpool and died 1938 (no place given).   It shows she had another husband but no information given except his name was Collier.   

There is a likely looking marriage June quarter 1907 Liverpool between Rose Ann Clinton and Joseph Collier and possible children between 1912 and 1920 are:

Collier - mother Clinton:

Joseph Mar.1912 Liverpool
Dolores Jun. 1913 Liverpool
Rose A. Sept.1914 Liverpool
Winifred Dec.1915 Liverpool
Eileen Mar.1920 Liverpool

Cannot find a marriage for Rose Ann Collier to a Flinders so possibly they were not married and just lived together.   If the death year is accurate for Rose it was not listed under Flinders or Collier (?)

There appears to be just 2 Harry Flinders born in Sheffield - one in 1888 and the other in 1902.   Since Rose was 40 when she had Ethel in 1922 I would suspect it was probably the older Harry.

Possibly the submitter of the tree may have some added information but unless you are a member of ancestry you won't be able to contact them directly as messages have to go through the site.   I would be willing to send a message on your behalf if you could send me a PM with your personal e-mail address and ask them to contact you directly.
