Hi again! found a very interesting possible match for Roger on the Irish Family History Foundation website at - www.irish-roots.ie
there are two records (possibly a duplicated entry?) of a baptism of
Roger Read 1813 Oldcastle RC Parish, Co. Meath
the transcripts cost €5 each to view in full. There's also a possible marriage for him in the same parish in 1842, and at least two possible children - Anne 1849 and Edward in 1859. (both records seem to be duplicated)

Hi Shane ... I seen that Roger Reid b. 1813... married 1842... died 1880.. The dates were close to what i was thinking an that why i put on post .. Didnt see the entry for the children ? Where was that ?? but the Edward looks good the year is right and there is an Anne Byrne as witness on marriage cert that could be his sister as bridesmaid .. all sensible possibilitys .. think worth the fiver .. calling on your experience what you think ??
Many Thanks Anthony

To search for possible children's baptisms - select a surname and an initial, a parish, and the fathers first name only....
you can narrow down by year (+/- 4) but if you leave the year blank and there are only a few matches (<10) it shows them all.
The reason the match looked to me good was the Edward baptism would place his age at 21 - which would fit with 'full age' on his marriage cert.
do you have other clues that point to Oldcastle or Co. Meath ?
Shane

sorry - no way to search on the mother's name. You to pay for the record transcript to see that..
I am assuming that the Reid/Read family were from somewhere close to Dublin so Oldcastle fits .. the only other possibities I can think are one of the Newcastles - closest to Dublin are probably the one near to Rathcoole and just east of Newtownmountkennedy in Wicklow.
I would say this probably the correct line - the placename memory, fathers name, close year of birth.. all add up to make a good case. Plus Edwards baptism is the only one that shows up on the IFHF system near to the right time and their system includes RC baptisms for the surrounding counties (Kildare, Wicklow Meath).
