Hargreaves
« on: Wednesday 29 July 09 13:27 UTC (UK) »

Hi. can anyone help. My father last had contact with his uncle in 1942 and to date I am struggling to find any information about him and his family. His name was James Henry Hargreaves born April 1895 in Burnley, he married Lena Beatrice Eva in Davenport, Cornwall in  March 1916 They had a son called Cyril born in Burnley in 1919/1920. My father tried to contact him in 1942 when he want to join the Royal Navy as a Sick Berth Attendant and traced him as a Petty Officer based  at Barry Gurney Hospital in Bristol but never managed to find him. Does anyone know of this family?

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

Cyril's birth was registered in the March qtr 1920 (between January-March) but he could have been born at the end of 1919 in which case this could be his death entry.  However - there was another Cyril Hargreaves birth registered in the December qtr of 1919 in Yorkshire so it could equally be his death

Cyril Hargreaves born 2 November 1919
Death registered September 2001
Age  81
District Lancaster  County Lancashire
Register number A8C
District and Sub district 5872A
Entry  136

If you want to research the ancestry of James Henry Hargreaves - was he born Burnley or Haslingden as there are 3 possible births on freebmd

You would need to buy a copy of the 1916 marriage cert to establish his fathers name (unless you already know that info) and then we can perhaps find him in 1901 for you

Hi. Thanks for info. I have most of the facts for birth and marriage of the parents, but lost contact in the 40's. My father thinks there may have been a separation between James Henry and Lena but I cannot find anything relating to this or  their death. May have emigrated?
I have seen the death of a Cyril Hargreaves in Lancaster in 2001, I will have to have a run up there soon.

Hi

A run up to Lancaster will not get you any info about his death,  You would need to buy a copy of the death cert.

Death certs for that period show place of birth so you could put a condition on your application that you only want it if birthplace was Burnley

If it's the other Cyril - the GRO will only charge a £3 search fee
