which child is my relatives
« on: Sunday 08 February 09 07:33 UTC (UK) »

i have patrick finnerty married to ann fahey 1895 in stockport cheshire. patrick was born walsall and ann was born in stockport.
on 1911 census they were living 18 piccadilly, john street, stockport. it states on the census children born alive 1 - children still lliving 0.
i have looked on free bmd and cheshire bmd to find the child - i have put in finnerty and mothers maiden name fahey but it does not identify . the ones i can find are:-
margaret born 1896    margaret died 1897 aged 1
joseph born 1898  joseph died 1902aged 4
francis born 1903  francis died 1905 aged 1
james born 1908   james died 1908 aged 0

any ideas how i can find which is their child ??
thanks and regards

Hi Belinda,

You can rule out Margaret 1896 and Joseph 1898 - if you check the birth on www.cheshirebmd.org.uk you will see that mother's maiden name is CONNEL(L).

I think that the only other way is to send for the birth certificates - but Cheshire BMD are gradually adding mother's maiden name so you may get lucky soon.

belinda, take each child in turn  and search with the details you have below then add to the relationship field son or daughter to find out which one it returns ok

you can change the relationship for the other children  and hopefully hit on the correct one

Jenny

oops must read the thread properly, you don't know the name of the living child  Embarrassed

Stockport Central Library have a microfilm which includes sets of birth certs by the Registrar especially for the education department.

These were not ALL children registered in Stockport.  JUST THE ONES WHO WOULD ENTER STOCKPORT SCHOOLS paid for by Stockport Council.

So this did not include children living outside the Stockport toiwn whose birthplaces caused them to be birth registered there.

It started in 1881 and continued till after 1948.

Some years are missed out.

It shows an actual copy of the birth cert.

My GGAunt is on it b.1881 and I am too b 194ish.
