estate managers

can anyone please help .....would an estate who employed an estate manager have  to be of a particular size......... as I'm having difficulty in locating ancestors in this profession..................have tried tithe records/Griffiths with no luck,,any suggestions?

The answers to the first two questions you asked are - " Yes " a great many people can help if you heed the suggestions. " No "  the size of the estate had no bearing on whether or not a manager was employed - an estate is not a smallholding and very many of the estate owners were absentee landlords - i.e. they lived in England or further afield and left their all business affairs in the hands of the estate manager. The management of many Irish estates was very badly handled to the detriment of the tenants of those particular estates.

You should have been able to find something in Griffiths Valuations. Which estates have you looked at in your search ? You may find the following URL http://tinyurl.com/68k4e9- contains some useful information. It is about the records for Landed Estates in the north of Ireland.

In many instances Estate Records contain a large amount of detail and may well mention the names of the estate managers.
