They seem to have got Thomas's age a bit out, hume  Roll Eyes

Would it be 7 rather than 1 and got entered wrongly from the schedule to the book  by the enumerator  - Thomas is aged 26 on the 1891 and 20 in 1884.

Embarrassed Yep, think you're right, it is 7 but the top part is very faded in the image. Will adjust now.

Will and inventory of Thomas Whyte 22 Sept 1881, Paisley Sherriffs Court  - 'sometime farmer, Chapel, United parishes of Houston and Killellan, therafter at Woodend, in said United Parishes, d. 9 Feb 1881, at Woodend....'  It would be interesting to see who was left what but 2 x £5

In the 1871 that hume  found,  he and and the family are living at Chaple (sic) Farm.......

Death - Woodend, Houston and Killellan:Thomas Whyte, farmer,  single and aged 86. His parents were Robert Whyte, farmer and Mary, m.s. Orr, both deceased. His brother, William Whyte (not present) was the informant.  I recall that William Whyte was Robert's father.

So William and Margaret Whyte may be around somewhere as well  Smiley

I had the same information & doubt I would ever have found it  Roll Eyes  but I find it very useful to see all the variations - helps to improve the search skills. One has to think like a rubics cube solver when looking at some transcriptions  Cheesy

Don't be confused Jan. There were two different families

One as per the census you listed with mother Mary - so disregard all those messages, cause that is the wrong family based on the marriage information.

Because  the marriage is correct, the right  messages are those relating to parents Robert and Helen  Smiley

Trish

PS I get confused easily too  Sad

Hi all

I am just looking at Thomas birth cert
illegitimate was a surprise on my dad's side of the family ( there were church people)
I did find illegitimate twins on my mum side of the family and never blink a eye  but finding one on my dads side is a shock

Hi Jan  Smiley

My lines were all pretty religious as well but I've also got illegitimacies and near so- one married the day before my grandmother was born and the marriage and birth certs were neatly tucked away together  in the Family Bible.

Under Scottish Law, as I read it,  he would have been legitimized on his parents marriage if there were both free to marry at the time of his birth.
