CHESTER Harison's Place George St
« on: Monday 09 February 09 10:54 UTC (UK) »

I have a copy of my gt gt grandfather's will in which he bequeathes a freehold house at 1a Harison's Place (spelling?) George Street Chester to his sons. Can anyone tell me what kind of houses might have been in this area?  I assume the houses have long gone?

In the 1901 Census there are two addresses that is 1 Harrison's Place, occupied by James F. Bailey, and 2 Harrison's Place occupied by George Taylor.
RG12 Piece 3373 Folio 30 Page 14
In the 1902 Directory it is called Harrison's Yard, and is on the north side of George Street, from Upper Northgate Street to Victoria Road, between numbers 19 and 21, occupied by a George Taylor, Wood Turner.
On Google Earth it is a car park   Smiley

By 1911  James Frederick BAILEY and his son Frederick James formerly of # 1 harrison's Place had moved to 26 KING St CHESTER

By 1911 George TAYLOR wood turner formerly at #2 Harrison's Place had died and his widow and children lived at 26 Weaver St CHESTER

So I still don't know who was living at 1a Harrison's Place when my great great grandfather left the freehold in his will in 1912.  How frustrating!!  Smiley

Have you had a look on the Electoral Roles?

If not, they're on microfiche at the Chester History and Heritage Center. That may tell you who was there.
