At last an episode in the British Isles, Scotland and Bexhill  Grin Grin  Very interesting, and there seems to be a theme growing here - family documents and what fantastic information Fiona gleaned from them as well.  Lucky thing!

Lowly fishermen, almost as good as Ag Labs, that'll do for me!  Grin Roll Eyes

Yes...lovely to see a UK-based WDYTYA...she has a lot to be proud of, I think.

They must have ran out of time, as they could have gone another generation back with the Bruce's.

George Bruce son of George Bruce and Elspet Geddes, christened 25th Nov 1804, Rathven, Banff, Scotland.
source: IGI

I'm sure they could have gone a bit further back.

I enjoyed the programme, wish I could find such interesting documents, but then I don't have the backing of the BBC and unlimited funds for researchers. Roll Eyes

I really enjoyed this week. It was one of those programmes where I wished there was a Part 2, to look at the ancestors we didn't see. It was good to see some Scottish history included too.

Did they say Fiona's mother was adopted? Got no personal interest in this, but I'd very much like to see adoption included in a future programme.

I thought it a shame that the school didn't return the notification of death to the family along with other documents. I noted that the archivist passed comment on that. I think he would have preferred her and the family to have them back. What use are they to the school now? The school could keep copies IMHO and return the originals.

I just love Fiona Bruce too  Grin Wink my heart goes boom bitty boom bitty boom bitty boom.....

Very good episode. a huge improvement on last week. Fiona was lovely, and her enthusiasm was great.

Personally for a future episode, id love them to find a celeb with Romany gypsy ancestry. I have one line of romany gypsies, and they have been so hard to find. So id love to see how they got on with that.

I also thought this was better than last weeks. Perhaps that is because my Sisters partner is a Sutherland from Hopeman Grin Grin I joked beforehand that they would need to watch it just incase. Now I think this may spark some interest.

Also have they put a ban on  Cry this series. I think that enthusiasm and looking genuinly interested in what people are telling them is much better telly than tears all the time.

I enjoyed this one.
There were one or two lines they could have followed up, the rogue photographer's wife and parents for instance.
Good to see Scotlands People being used!

Yes, a much more interesting episode.  When Fiona Bruce was inspecting the paperwork for the scholarship entrance, I spotted the words "Baptised St. George, Westcombe Park", which was once my local church - my banns were read there before I got married.  I've still got the recording, I'll have to look at it again.

A very interesting story, with lots of twists and turns.

I really enjoyed Fiona's episode.
Several interesting stories and different records used. I loved her comment while looking up the census, saying it was like spying!

Am I correct in recalling that it was claimed that the Crouch Edinburgh death certificate was obtained from ' The National Records Office', or did I miss something?
