QUINN/BROGAN
Hi,
I am in hope of someone being able to help me?
My gt,gt Grandfather is Martin Brogan, his sister is Mary, Their father was called John Brogan- all that is known about him is from his children's marriage certificates is, he is deceased and a corn miller/farmer. Their mother was called Ellen Quinn, Martin was born around 1844/45 and Mary was born around 1845/46. The censuses for Martin and Mary say they were born in Co, Sligo. But it is more the parents origins I am trying to find.
They must have come over during the famine as it was around that time, and they were Roman Catholics.
Any advise or information would be gratefully received!!!

The Irish Family History Foundation Website has transcripts of parish records from Co. Mayo - including for the RC parish of Killasser.
Two Martin Brogan baptisms are listed on the index around that time - one in 1840 the other in 1844, neither in Killasser parish though... (if you include Co. Sligo in the search - it still gives just these 2 results...)
there's a parish map for Co. Mayo on the Irish Times website here : http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/mayorc.htm
might help to check for parishes next to Killasser...
the IFHF website is www.irish-roots.ie - records cost €5 to view, the index search is free.

Thanks shanew147,
Martin and his sister Mary always stated on censuses that their place of birth was Co sligo, It's their mother Mary Brogan Nee Quinn, daughter of Bryan that was born in the Parish of Kilasser.
Not really getting anywhere with this, have been searching all surrounding areas of Parish Records available on microfilm and fiche at LDS church. But still have nothing.
I think it's the end of the line for this family tree. As Mayo have the least records I don't think it can be taken any further. I like doing my own research and more or less everthing available has been searched.
It was a small hope that it could go further with the mention of Kilasser, but as said it comes to an end.
Thanks Cancan.
