We haven't exactly got a one-name-study going for this name, yet, but, since all instances of the name seem to go back to just one family, in Hydra, Greece, then perhaps we should.

The name seems to be related to the much more common name 'Svobo' ~ well, common in Eastern Europe and parts of Northern Europe.

To this day, in Greece, the name can be transliterated into both Svombo(s) (u) and Svobo(s) (u). 'S' & 'U' are the male & female endings.

I'd be interested in contacting anyone with family connections:
Svombo, Swombo, Svambo, Swambo, Swanbo, Swombow, Suombo, Suambo, Suimbo, Sombo, Svombos, Svobos, etc, etc. Smiley
