miss JEAN JOLLY O.B.E. Matron.COMPLETED
« on: Thursday 12 February 09 16:25 GMT (UK) »
hi, I'm looking for info about   Miss Jean Jolly O.B.E. She was the Matron of the southern general hospital. and stobhill hospital in glasgow. I cannot find any records of her Birth or Death to verify if she is related to my line of JOLLYS.
I have a photograph of her, performing the "naming ceremony" of two new air ambulances in 1955. Please can anyone help.

many thanks
duskyree.
thanks everyone for your help,    COMPLETED

Hi,
there are several potential Jean or Jeannie Jolly's on the Scotlands people website. Deaths are too recent to view, so you would either have to order the certificate or go a records office to view it. There is one likely death, given that she would likely be over 40 in 1955 and was unmarried.
best wishes,
John

Googling her name did bring up a website for the rcn archives. It seems that your Jean was actually named Jean Donald Jolly. This may help to narrow things down quite a lot.

thanks evie for your reply, it was very helpful. I've just had a look at the google web pages and i see they have the same photo that i have. i was interested to hear that her middle name was DONALD. I had previously had info from the southern general hospital saying that she always signed her name as miss jean D jolly, and i assumed that the D stood for DOUGLAS as the name douglas is used a lot as a middle name in my JOLLY line, passed down from a gg grandmother who's maiden name was "jane DOUGLAS annand".

thanks for your help,
          regards duskyree.

Hi Duskyree

When approx. do you think Jean was born? There is one birth entry showing on Scotlands People in 1896 for a Jane (common variant of Jean) Donald Jolly.

Adding onto Monica's info, there's also a death for a Jane Donald Jolly in 1981, aged 84. It was registered in Forfar, Angus, and can be ordered through Scotlandspeople.
