Spearin and all other spellings Limerick
« on: Wednesday 04 February 09 22:05 UTC (UK) »

Hi
My family are Spearin from Limerick and i am trying to find find out about them before they left Ireland. some went to Canada and US but a few families stayed in Limerick, one of them ours. I am finding it hard to link up the families that left and the families that stayed here. I have Luke Spearin born somewhere in Limerick ab 1833 and married to Ellen Harding and or Ellen Kenealy. Son Joseph born ab 1860 in Limerick married to Mary Kate O'Mahonya ab 1900. Luke died ab 1900 also in Limerick.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Margaret,

Do you have any certificates? There is a Luke Sperin  marrying in 1832 according to Limerick Genealogy. If this was the father of the Luke you have identified you could use the parish and father's christian name to narrow down siblings.I  find this helps refine searching on quite an expensive site.

You may need to trawl through parish records, not sure where you would go for them in Limerick. I am sure someone else can say. I have used Parish records in the National Library in Dublin. So if you are in Ireland that may be a way forward ( I'm in England so don't often get to the records myself.) Information on the net is less certain and I always like to double check.

The family search sites are good to use in conjunction with Limerick Genealogy. I have found a couple of my grandmother's siblings  by checking possibles from FS against the parish and father's name.
