She did imply Maria Stephenson married Thomas Washbourn but, i thought lizdb was implying she thought Maria Washbourn was not Maria Stephenson but, infact she is.
She said she wouldn't be surprised if Maria Washbourne wasn't née Stephenson bearing in mind the marriage she'd found. Cutting out the negatives, she thought Maria Washbourne was Maria Stephenson. And you've confirmed that she was right!

Yes - I thought that Maria Washbourn I found on the census visiting Mr Stephenson, was probably the Maria Stephenson I found marrying a Mr Washbourn earlier .... just an aside comment really.
And you say she was.
Are we all happy now!
(apart from poor Maria who, it seems was widowed young)

This is what so far, A few questions have popped up re various spouses John Vere may or not have.
Good morning Annie, this is wonderful. If you go to Google and enter Vere Stephenson you will see i entered a quirie 4 years ago about the 1851 census you will see my email address in a response that you posted to me. Could you please use this, i find it more personal.
Well, Vere has been busy. I did not know about the marriage to Mary Godbold. I do have the marriage to Mary McGowan in 1866. Vere was a widow at the time of his marriage to Mary McGowan. I have him married three times? If this other marriage (Mary Godbold) is correct then it will be four times. You will know the appr. year of birth if you search the 1851,1861,1871 census. Vere died in 1881 so searching the later census is useless. Please keep in mind in searching the census for Vere the enumerator sometimes entered his name as Vere, Vear, Were or Wear. Something you will not know, there are two Vere's out there and they are connected but not father and son. It will be very easy to follow the incorrect line. I have one person i was in contact with ( but no Longer) who stated his connection was your Susan's brother Thomas. I asked if he purchased any certificates for Thomas and he said no. Well i purchased the marriage certificate and found he was wrong and he was following the incorrect Thomas. As it turns out his connection is to this other Vere. I mentioned this to him and now he will not return my emails. His loss!
