Presumably this is the marriage you refer to -
Oct/No/Dec 1842 Wandsworth ref 4 491 Catherine Washbourn
one of grooms - Vear Stephenson
interestingly on the same page are a Maria Stephenson and a Thomas Washbourn - wonder if it was a double wedding?

I was hoping someone might have some info, have ordered 13 certs for various other members this month.
If all else fails yes I will it gets a bit pricey when sending to Australia

WEll - you say he was born Ely, but that is not what he said in 1851
HO107 1473 322 41 18 Keppel Street Chelsea John Stevenson 27 Smith bn Harwich Suffolk Catherine 27 bn Gloucester Thomas Vere 6 bn Chelsea Mary Jane 4 bn Chelsea
(By the way, Harwich is in Essex not Suffolk!)
re: the possible double wedding - might not be , and if it is, could just be siblings rather than twins!

Also meant to say John also goes by the name Vere (s) on census records
Vere is an unusual name really looking to find out where comes from

So you probably have 1861 census too, then, but I will post it to save anyone else looking for the details:
RG9 34 130 40 still at 18 Keppel Street Chelsea Veres Stephenson 37 White Smith bn Cambridge Ely Catherine 37 bn Gloster Barkersheard Thomas 16 son White Smith bn Chelsea Susan 8 bn Chelsea MAria Washbourn widow 38 visitor bn Romford essex Thomas Washbourn visitor 11 bn Hugglestone Middx
I wouldnt be at all surprised if this Maria wasnt nee Stephenson and is the one who might have married a Thomas Washbourn in same quarter as Vere and Catherine married!

absolutley
but I cant work out how
"vere" and "stephenson"

It could go back a long way, or not be on a direct line. I have a name carried through one branch of my family, many people used it, daughters gave it to their sons (even though their surnames obviously changed ) and then their children passed it on too, and sons gave it to their sons down every line.
You will have to just keep following everyone and one day will find the link! Isnt that what this is all about and where the fun is!!!

Some christenings -
18 Jul 1824 Manea Cambridgeshire Vere Stevenson parents Joseph and Susannah
(could this be your John Vere?)
18 April 1836 Suffolk Bishops transcripts Joseph Vere Stevenson parents Robert and Elizabeth
21 Ap 1840 Joseph Vere Stevenson Suffolk Bishops Transcripts parents Robert and Elizabeth
could thisd be the little Vere in 1841 in Suffolk? and could other one be an older bro who died?

Hello Annie, i have been trying to get in touch with you for a month now without success. If you are connected to the line of Thomas Vere Stephenson then you and i have a connection. Can i please ask if you have a name for the wife of Thomas Vere? I ask this because there are a few Thomas Stephenson's about and are mistaken for this Thomas Vere Stephenson. I have someone who states he is connected to this line but, i know for a fact he has the incorrect Thomas, as i have the marriage cert. for his Thomas. I look forward to hearing from you.
Vere
