Christopher Monaghan Inver Parish Mount Charles
« on: Sunday 15 February 09 13:14 UTC (UK) »

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to find imformation on Christopher Monaghan of Inver Parish Mount Charles, Donegal.  He married Mary Ward daughter of William Ward and Bridget Gallacher,  Christophers parents were Christopher Monaghan and Mary Conaghan.  Christopher and Mary Monaghan had the following children William, Mary, Bridget, Patrick, James and John. Any imformation would be much appreciated.  I have Christopher and Mary on the Scottish census in 1901 living alongside their daughter Mary and her husband Robert Perkins.  Bridget remained in inver parish and married Bernard Molloy in 1896, I am trying to determine when they left Ireland and where exactly they lived and worked, if anybody can help me in anyway I would be very greatful

Kind regards Jane

Hi Jane

Drumbeg House is, I'm fairly sure, a large house at Lower Cranny, Inver. It is still there, though empty. I believe that it was a hotel for a while and there have been planning applications for redevelopment - so get down there before it's demolished. I have a friend who's family used to own it I think but don't know if there are any records - I'll ask.

Hall Demesne is also an estate near Mountcharles - I think the house is still there and can be seen from the coast road at Mountcharles.

Hi Moira,

I live just outside Glasgow in a village called Chapelhall,

Christopher Monaghans wife was Mary Ward and her parents were William Ward and Bridget Gallagher,  Christophers father was also Christopher and his wifes name was Bridget Conaghan all from inver Parish, Do u know much history of the area?  My ggrandmother Bridget Monaghan and her sister Mary worked in some big house, many years ago my mother remembers talking to an old lady who knew the house they worked in and she said that you would have to be educated to work in this house, both sisters met their husbands to be while working in the house Mary Monaghan met and married the coachman Robert Perkins and they had to run away to Scotland to get married as they were of different religions, Bridget met and married Bernard Mulloy he was a sheriffs bailiff and emergency man, I think he did some work for the big house that Bridget and Mary lived in. I found an article in hansard papers about him discharging his revolver on 3 sailors who were on leave quite amusing reading

So I am trying to find the big house where they worked

Hope to hear from you soon Jane
