Solomon on 1881 / 1891 Census
« on: Monday 16 February 09 14:25 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Can anyone help me I am looking for a Thomas Solomon I found him on the 1891 Census age 19 so he should also be on the 1891 and maybe the 1881 (although i think he was born 1882) I know from the 1891 census that his mum was Margaret but nothing about his dad.  can anyone tell me of a cheap way of finding out this info as I keep having to spend £6 with websites and cant afford to do this a lot.

Any help would be greatly received.

Thanks

Hi Broxi

Welcome to Rootschat.  Smiley

Could you tell us where he was living on the 1901 and give his place of birth, also the age and place of birth of his mother Margaret.  Does it say whether Margaret is married or a Widow.

Thank you Rosie that is brilliant.

It looks like they are his mum, sister and brother Oh and granny and that his dad died before he was born, so will look into him next.  He was also called Thomas and was seaman in the Navy.  And also interested in James as never knew anything about him and it looks like he only appears on the census you found.

Thanks again

Hi Elaine

A look for Margaret Solomon in 1871 produces this one:-

Village of Clachnaharry Invernessshire

Margaret Solomon 26 head born Llanharry (Ancestry spelling) Invernessshire
James Soloman son aged 3 born Llanharry( Ancestry spelling)Invernessshire
Mary Fraser, mother aged 54 born Greenock
Margaret McIntosh aged 3 lodger born Inverness

In 1861 we have the following:-

Clachnaharry Private House

James Fraser 37, head, Sailor, born Inverness
Mary Fraser 40, wife, born Greenock
Margaret Fraser, 17, daughter born Inverness.

The IGI shows a marriage for Thomas Solomon and Margaret Fraser in Inverness 11 March 1869. The marriage cert on www.Scotlandspeople.gov.uk should show both sets of parents names.

Best wishes
Jean
