I am looking for a Willliam Cross born 1823 in Ardington he married Martha Fisher in 1861.
I have found the family living in Ardington in 1871, 1881 and in 1897 William Cross died.
I bellieve that Matha married into the Fisher family as they seem to have a stopson living with them in 1871 called William Fisher.
I am interested to find out if William Cross was married before and where he was before 1871.
I am also interested in finging out who Martha Cross was married to when she become a Fisher and where she lived and what her maiden name was including her father, mother and family, also when she died.
Kind regards Lisa

William Cross aged 39 bach labourer son of William Cross Lab to Martha Fisher aged 22 spinster daughter of John Fisher lab witnessed by Charles Greenough & Hannah Cross
so neither party had been married before
In 1841 census John Cross 25 Y was a lab for Francis Clarke farmer
and there is Daniel Cross aged 50 married to Elizabeth aged 45 with Caroline 13 , Elizabeth 10 , and Mary 8+ Henry Adams 30 & Ann Adams 25 all born in the county
from the 1851 census index I have
CROSS Caroline 23 Willm 27
from baptisms for Ardington 1827 Aug 12th Caroline d/o Daniel & Elizabeth Cross lab 1822 Oct 6th William s/o Daniel & Elizabeth Cross lab
I think the marriage transcription is wrong and Williams father is Daniel (who died in 1846 long before the wedding) . In 1851 William and his sister Caroline appear to be living in the same household, perhaps someone with the whole census (I have only the index for that year) could look it up and see if their relationshiip is made any clearer.
What was William Fisher’s (1871) age and birthplace - perhaps tracking down his baptism might sort out what relation he was?

William Fisher was born i 1860 at Lambourn, perhaps he was called Fisher because they were not married when he was born or perhaps he just had a different father and they were not married.
Thanks for all your help.

I expect your right about William Fisher - unfortunatly I don't have parish records for Lambourn and the family search index dosn't quite cover this period.
I do have an 1851 census index though - Martha is there aged 10! - I think she would be the one baptised 15th November 1840 d/o John & Ruth (from Family search)
John Fisher married Ruth Beckett 22nd November 1829 in Lambourne (also family search)
if you can get someone to do a lookup in the complete 1851 census (I know someone has it as they have been doing look-ups for Hungerford and its in the same area) HO107/1686 folios 641 and 642 - Upper Lambourne is where they are listed.
hope this helps
