Cloghog, Cookstown in Co Tyrone
« on: Monday 16 February 09 22:59 GMT (UK) »

Help! I've been told my family came from Armagh/Tyrone and Tyrone is new ground for me.

I'm searching for my gggf, John HAMILTON's birth record. His father's name is listed as David HAMILTON, farmer, on his civil marriage record. I have found a possible birth record through IFHF that lists an address of Cloghog in Cookstown, Tyrone. Looking for area records to establish if this is the right person. Any suggestions, resources would be greatly appreciated.

John shows up as a School Master in Milford, Armagh in 1862 where he lived until about 1925.

Thanks,
J

The Griffiths valuation of Ireland is a good place to look.

What was the residence given on John Hamilton's marriage certificate, and what date was the marriage. This info may help others to find the correct details.

Their Civil Marriage Record shows they were married 29 Dec 1862 in the Armagh Pr 3 Parish, County Armagh. John's address was listed as Milford, Eliza Mary' as Armagh, they were schoolmaster/mistress.

There were no addresses listed for either father.

Thanks

I now have confirmation that John HAMILTON was born in Tyrone, birth est 1837 from his death certificate and 1901 Census.

His father's name was David and he was a farmer.
