Macclesfield parochial chapel
« on: Tuesday 17 February 09 02:54 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone please tell me exactly which is the church which was described as the Parochial Chapel at Macclesfield in 1844?

Was it St Michael which was on the East side of Market Place?

I have a copy of the marriage certificate for WEBB = HITCHINSON there on 29 July 1844 and wish to know which church/chapel it was/is.

With thanks.  Jill Statton, Adelaide, South Australia.

Hi Jill,
CheshireBMD has this marriage listed as Macclesfield, St Michael's, so your guess looks a good one. According to the GENUKI pages for Macc. St Michael's was originally a chapelry to Prestbury (St Peter's)

It sounds as those you're familiar with the place already, if not there's some current photos on the Carl's Cam site

and there's some current & older ones on the Cheshire Churches site

My mum and dad got married at St Michaels in 1948- the pic on my profile is taken outside it-on a very very cold December day!
