I was disappointed too-hints of a very interesting family backgound but hardly explored at all. Fly someone half way round the planet to investigate their history and then don't give enough time to walk aroung a graveyard? great fan of rick stein but chalky could have thrown a better programme together than this
and he's dead

My OH and I only watched this last night, I had to record it as he was out on Monday. The first part seemed a totally useless exercise. Surely he didn't need BBC to get him together with his brother and sister and chat about their parents.
My OH commented that the whole of this series is missing "something". There is so much interest in family history now, it seemed a wasted opportunity to have Rick Stein programme. Or maybe it was to suggest that we should talk to our nearest and dearest whilst they are still alive.

It's that time of year again!

I have always liked Rick Stein and thought he came from a more 'common' background. My OH and I were both surprised at his affluent and educated background as he comes over as one of us. He went up in our estimation of character and personality. But I agree that the programme has changed and is more a personality show than a 'finding your roots' programme, Abiam

I agree that the last episode was dull and uninteresting. It sems as if they are not really looking at their subjects's roots; no doubt the combined talents on here could do a better job ........ so why don't we? Next week is Zoe Wanamaker, here is what wiki has to say and could get us going? Anyone like to take up the challenge?

or would that spoil next week's viewing? It might mean we could see how good they really are!!

I've just caught up on iPlayer ...
.... my conclusions:-
Rick seems a very nice man; the scenery was nice !
Too much by far about his fathers very personal health problems (a program by Robert Winston on those might have been more interesting)
Not enough about the China side of the family
Nothing about his German ancestry ...
... all in all, a very poor programme !

This series is really poor so far.
I don't like the way they seem to have changed the format:
Concentrating too long on one person for half of the program. Then teasing us quickly with a few of the great grandparents, and then not telling us anything about them or going any further back.
Im not sure if they have a new producer or something. but it really doesnt work.

Don't know whether there is a new producer, but the production compant is wall to wall - www.walltowall.co.uk - and there are several email addresses should you wish to make a comment about their programmes

Without Autumn there would be no Spring....

I too was watching the clock and hoping they'd get a move on.
A very boring programme. Not enough delving into the past for my mind.
