IGI gives 4 results, 2 children. Could be your starting point.
Have you tried SP for marriage or children?

I'd probably scratch last 3. Separate marriage listed for parents and maiden name for mother Holliday.

Thanks Dave. I have wondered if the Wakefield marriage is the right people? I am hoping to find someone with the same family but this might be a long shot. I did go through the original Moffat Parish registers. The family did have some Unitarian members too and I have no idea where to find those records?
What is SP?
Thanks again,
Debbie

My apologies. - SP is ScotlandsPeople - http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
Go here* and register first to give it a try for free.
Once you are in SP don't be too specific with your search. 1 credit gives you up to 25 possible matches.

Edited because I don't think I was making too much sense. Hope the above is clearer now.

Don't know if this is any help but I have the marriage cert of Janet Thomson (to John Dinwoodie) in Moffat, the date is much later 1857. Her witness, however, is an Elizabeth Halliday. Maybe family connections continuing in some way...... Norma

I belong to the same family as Margaret Porteous, through her brother William.
Margaret Porteous c1747 - 11 November 1819 interred St Mungo. Married Thomas Halliday. I did not have an Elizabeth daughter of Margaret and Thomas. My data: Issue of Margaret Porteous and Thomas Halliday: John Graham H 1775 - died 1777 Walter H - no data, died young Jane H c1778 Margaret H c1780 Andrew H 1781 - 6 September 1839, married Helen Carmichael Issue of Andrew and Helen Thomas H 1817 - 1844 Janet H 1827 - 1851
Possibly Jane or Margaret gave birth to a son James Young. James had a daughter Jean c1830 - died 1834.
Does Elizabeth's headstone in St Mungo give the detail of her being the daughter of Margaret and Thomas?
If you can add to the above it would be most appreciated.
Regards
Ceeoh

Dear Ceeoh:
The following lists my research, so far, on the family of Thomas Halliday and Margaret Porteous.
From Parish registers:
28 Nov 1773 Elizabeth Mary (Mary crossed out)--Halliday, Dryfesdale Parish, Dumfries.
23 Oct 1775 John Halliday--Dalton Parish, Dumfries
08 Mar 1778 Jane Halliday--Dalton Parish, Dumfries
09 Jan 1780 Margaret Halliday--Dalton Parish, Dumfries
17 Mar 1782 Andrew Halliday--Dalton Parish, Dumfries (becomes Sir Andrew Halliday)
From MI's of St. Mungo:
John and Walter sons [who probably died young]
Elizabeth had a N. Son with Robert Young, no marriage listed, that I can find:
10 Feb 1792 James Young Dryfesdale Parish, Dumfries
He is buried with his grandparents in St. Mungo, as you noted, with two daughters of his nine issue. I have further info on James Young as he is my direct line. His dau, Margaret Porteous Young, (1822-1910) is my 2nd gr grandmother.
What I believe to be Elizabeth's gravestone lists the following:
From MI's of St. Mungo:
"Elizabeth Holliday spouse of Wm. Thomson who d. at Moffat 24 Feb 1853 age 81 yrs."
Although the gravestone does not list parents, the will of Sir Andrew Halliday [1839] lists his siblings as Janet, Elizabeth, Jean, Margaret, and Agnes.
The death record of James Young 08 Jan 1875 Lockerbie, Dumfries, lists his mother as Elizabeth Thomson MS Halliday.
I have found a few children of Elizabeth and Wm. Thomson's born in Moffat, but little else, and would sincerely appreciate any help on this.
I am also currently researching Sir Andrew Halliday's career as well as his godson Andrew Smith Hallidie (grandson of Sir Andrew Halliday's sister, Margaret) who was the inventer of the cable car in San Francisco.
Your cousin,
Debbie
Do you know where parish records for John and Walter might be found? What is your source for: John Graham H 1775 - died 1777 and Walter H - no data, died young.
Also can you list source of your info as follows:
"Issue of Andrew and Helen Thomas H 1817 - 1844 Janet H 1827 - 1851"

Hi Debbie. Thanks for further info on the Halliday family, particularly pleased to hear about James Young because I could never work out where he fitted in.
Give me a few days to sort through my files and I will send you what I have on sources etc.
