Have you really checked Tyrone because a lot of the McKennas came (and come) from there, particularly the southern part of Clogher and County Monaghan.  Look to the Cogher connections, but don't expect much because there wasn't a lot of recordation going on until later that century.  This was a Roman Catholic and it was subject to many of the Penal Laws.  It is also home of the Carrolls, but that is a stretch because you don't know anything about the wife but her maiden name.

Carroll, McCarroll, McCusker and McCosker from County Tyrone. Then there are Dillen for Derry, Gaffigan, McGaffigan, Crennan, and Amos.  Now adding: Leonard, Berry, and Gahagan from Strokestown, County Roscommon, also Gahigan, Hounihan, and Whonohan and another branch of Carrolls from County Cork.

We have a great grandpa called patrick McKenna born 1840 Donaghmore, Tyrone - that is all. Next we know is that he went to India in 1861 joined Madras Horse Artillery -
Married in St. Thomas' Mount Catholic church, Madras in 1967 to Anne Elizabeth Byrne. They had many children including 1873-Alice; 1881-Mary; and in 1882-Winnifred (our grandma). He reached Warrant Officer (Conductor) rank in Madras in 1881 - served in Burma in 1886. We recently found that his wife Annie died in Madras in 1906 aged 56 and was listed as an Army pensioner - so Patrick must have passed on before that.
We are in Aus and are also looking for his birth/baptism certificates and where he is buried in India and, of course, any of his descendents. (We will ring the registrar in Dungannon on MONDAY but will probably have to contact the churches in Donaghmore.  Alcollins

Welcome to Rootschat but civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages in Ireland only started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificate for your Patrick McKenna. For pre-registration dates you need to see if any church records exist.

We have tried to correct the information we previously posted regarding Patrick Mckenna (without success). He was born in 1840, we believe, in Donaghmore and we can also add that his father was called John McKenna.  We very much hope that any one of his descendents can help to confirm that his birthplace WAS indeed Donaghmore in Co. Tyrone.
